Greetings friends! Hope you've had a great week of inspiration from the design team for LESSology Challenge #39: Fluttering Butterflies. How about one last one before we head into the weekend? Design team member Lizzy Hill has a beautiful upcycled box to share!

Hello my scrappy friends! Lizzy with you today to share an OTP project this month. Featuring butterflies.

Now, I'm not much of a butterfly or flower person - but I'm slowly getting my study to look a little Vintage French as I alter my containers. So, on a small shelf I have these containers:

I decided to upcycle the GREEN BOX - this is where I keep my stamps. Here's what it looked like when I'd finished:

I think it looks SLIGHTLY better, LOL ----don't you??!!!!!!
It took quite some work. I'm gonna post the photos - & try not write too much! Here we go!!!

This created a 'basis' for the box....next I decorated:)

 More Gesso.....

Distress ink sponged on....the butterflies stamped with STAZ ON [water resistant ink]

Then I added some die cut butterflies & rubbed in some SILKS ACRYLIC GLAZE in gold for a nice sheen.....Finally a coat of Acrylic Glaze to protect it all!
The finished stamp box:

I added some butterflies inside as well:)

And finally, the front side:

I hope you've gotten some ideas on 'upcycling' that you can also use from this step by step.
And I didn't write too much ---- v proud of myself!!!
Any questions, just ask - thanks for looking & hoping to see your AMAZING butterfly creations:):)
Happy scrapping ~ Lizzy ♥♥♥

LESSology Challenge #39: Creative inspiration of Mitra Pratt

 photo Challenge-39-design-team_zps1326299b.jpg

Hi altered enthusiasts! Are you working on your entries for LESSology Challenge #39: Fluttering Butterflies? Design team member Mitra Pratt made her own version of a "butterfly"...check it out...

A while ago I blogged about my creative process. I showed two of these spindles and some locks. To be honest, I thought the project with the top part of the spindle and the locks would be done first....

However, the bottom part of the spindle that I had cut off was calling me to make it into a dragonfly!

Dragonflies are one of my favorite bugs. We have several different varieties at the new house and I'm constantly saving them out of the garage when they accidentally get stuck.

This piece is that it can stand on its own which really made me happy. I used some really heavy gauge wire to twist up feet. I also love the delicate wings that I cut out of plain white paper on my Silhouette. Some alcohol inks & shimmer paint make them extra awesome.

I had fun posing my dragonfly a few different places. Here she is on my gazing ball. Maybe we should call her Violet.

Used some upcycled flowers from the second hand store, some that were hand made by Lizzy Hill, fellow DT member, and also some rolled roses that have been inked up.

Don't forget to check out Violet's twisted wire antenna and her pretty purple gem eye balls!

Hope you get a chance to play along with our challenge over here at LESSology!

Hi everyone!
Julie with you here today to share my taking on this month's challenge -- Fluttering Butterflies!!A few years ago, my BFF sent me a boxed perfume set -- and the box was beautiful, so I kept it :) My daughter Brookie took tap dance a couple of years ago, and I kept her tap shoes from the class :)

So I took the lid from the perfume boxed set and her shoes and created a shadow box to remember her first dance class!

Here is what I started with --

Inside the lid of the box --

And the outside of the lid and her shoes --

And here is what I created with them --

Can't wait to see what you create for this challenge!! ~~ Julie :)

Butterflies are such pretty embellishments to add to your projects. Let's check out how design team members Kirsty Vittetoe and Yvonne Yam were inspired by LESSology Challenge #39: Fluttering Butterflies

Kirsty Vittetoe

You are going to love this challenge, because we are going to use butterfly on our project, who doesn't love butterfly?

Mine was made from old book page.... an old dictionary from the thrift store for 0.25, probably a life long supplies too.

Come share with us at LESSology!

I am in the midst of "dolling" up my craft space so I've been altering some of my storage units.

Like this small wooden drawer that I've had for years. The drawer was black and cream with a small knob.

I covered it with remnant lace...

Then I added a fabric bloom for the knob...some pearls and a pretty butterfly bling.

It's a simple way to "doll" up a functional storage unit that you already have. I'm going to use it to store my butterfly embellishments. :)
